England are now assured of at least five teams in next season’s Champions League following Arsenal’s first-leg win over Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

Just one win across any of the three European competitions would have been enough to clinch the fifth Champions League spot for England.

The two additional Champions League places are awarded to the top-performing countries in UEFA’s coefficient rankings.

Liverpool and Arsenal are likely to finish in the Premier League’s top two, while just 12 points separate third-placed Nottingham Forest from 10th-placed Bournemouth. Chelsea, Newcastle, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Fulham, and Brighton currently sit between those positions.

England could potentially have up to seven teams in the 2025-26 Champions League if Aston Villa win this season’s competition without qualifying through league position, and if either Manchester United or Tottenham lift the Europa League title.

Italy are currently second in the UEFA coefficient rankings, with Spain and Germany trailing behind.
