Rajasthan Royals bowler Sandeep Sharma has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 due to a fractured finger, confirmed the franchise on May 1.
The injury occurred during a match against Gujarat Titans, when Sandeep tried to field a straight drive from Shubman Gill. Despite the pain, he continued to bowl the rest of his spell, showing great determination. The Royals have since praised his bravery and wished him a speedy recovery.
Before his injury, Sandeep was in good form, taking nine wickets in 10 matches with an economy rate of 9.89. He was replaced by Akash Madhwal for the match against Mumbai Indians.
The team is now working on finding a replacement for Sandeep, which will be announced soon.
In a blow to their playoff hopes, Rajasthan Royals were officially knocked out of the tournament on May 1, following a heavy 100-run defeat to Mumbai Indians at Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
Rajasthan Royals were asked to bowl first, and Mumbai set a massive total of 217/2. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton’s strong opening partnership of 116 runs set the tone. Rohit made 53 off 36 balls, while Rickelton played a key knock. Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav then added an unbeaten 94-run partnership, with Hardik scoring 48 off 23 balls.
In reply, Rajasthan Royals collapsed, managing just 117 runs in 16.1 overs. Jofra Archer top-scored with 30 off 27 balls, while Riyan Parag (16), Shubham Dubey (15), Yashasvi Jaiswal (13), and Dhruv Jurel (11) made small contributions. The rest of the team failed to reach double digits.
Mumbai’s victory sent them to the top of the points table, while Rajasthan Royals were eliminated from the tournament, remaining in eighth place with just six points from 11 matches. They became the second team after Chennai Super Kings to be knocked out of IPL 2025.
